Sam Bartram was a famous fantastic Charlton keeper. Rated 2nd in the country, because No1 at that time Man City's goalkeeper, Frank Swift, was reckoned best in the world. He was 6' 4" or so, and he died in the Man United plane crash. Anyway, Bartram was not too tall, very,very agile and spectacular, and Charlton were rated high in the 1st Div, now The Premiership. Afew times, as a kid, I stood close right behind his goal, and could hear him always shouting at his defence. Mostly he was shouting 'don't let them shoot'. He wanted the opposition kept well out of the penalty area at all times, and urged his defence to tackle and block like demons.
This meant his opponents could not get in close and had to shoot from distance, so that he had a chance. Great. Later,when i was older and supporting kid's teams, I would get behind their goal and teach them the same thing. I always like to see all teams, even England, prevent other teams from getting within 2 or 3 yards of the penalty area. Keep em out - give the keeper a chance! Charlton - Sam Bartram. That's why I asked if you had heard of him. Anyone who is Charlton would like to know about Bartram. Big up Charlton!

Aaaagh! Got me! But when they were in the old 2nd div and Charlton were up with the big boys in the old 1st Div(now Premiership) I used to go there to see the world's great players when they came to face Charlton. I was little then and liked to get close to the action at the valley, so I saw a lot of Sam Bartram. Red-head, he was, great guy. So I have a soft stop for Charlton, and D.Bent is striker in my Fantasy Premiership team.

I've deleted a sneddon post beacause it had quite a bit of searing in it, and would proberbly of resulted in Hez leaving the forum for good.
Darren Bent is one of the premierships best strikers, 14 goals with very little service last season! No 3000% price rise because he's english, just value for money for the best young striker around
From someone that doesn't support charlton, that's a big compment

lol i kinda hate Charlton, and Darren Bent, but i do agree hes done well considering the crappy service he would get from a team like Charlton. Hes prolly right to reject West Ham though, who would want to play for them...........except for Lucas Neill, the dumbass Aussie, who chose a big cheque over CL football (with Liverpool). WHAT A FOOL

liverpool insited that Blackburn give them £2 million plus Neill for Warnock, but then Neill left and they got Warnock for the £2 mill only. Who'd take money over football...other thatn the premiership's best fouler!
PS I didn't say Neil Warnock, I said Neill for Warnock.

There was a bit of swearing and I may have got a few words wrong eg he may have said "very average" not "very below average" but that's the gist of it.

hes a bit of a lob. how can he say bents average or below. and this is no lie when i say bent is better then drgoba. so how can 18 million be a ripoff compared to 24.5 mil.

LMAO Bent is not better than Drogba. Ive got nothing against Bent, but Drogba has proved this season that he is the top 5 strikers in the world. No doubt. I dont think Bent is up to that standard. Hes good, but not THAT good

drogba is nowhere even near the top 5 strikers in the world. for the past two seasons hes been complete Hey look, the swear filter works and if u look at most of this season theyve either been very easy or ridiculous luck. most people will disagree with me but bent is definatly better then drogba hands down

Henry, Eto'o, Klose, Owen, Van Nisterlroy, Shevchenko (last season was a blip in my opion), Adriano, Drogba. In my opinoin, Drogba is 8th in the world. Bent is about 6th best english striker, despite my bias Lita is better when he's in form. Then you have, Rooney, Owen, Crouch and Defoe. I hate Andy Johnson

Yeah i sorta agree with that, but if you go on last season, it would most likely go, in no particular order: Drogba, VN, Totti (if you call him a striker/AM), Villa, Eto'o/Berbatov. Adriano is overrated, he sucked ass last season. And bloody Shev, he never should have left Milan, he was a god there

I forgot Villa, and yes i did count Totti as an AM. Berba isn't that good, Benni Mcarthy scored more last season.
