After a disappointing group stage, including a 36-0 thrashing by South Africa , it looked bad for England when they came up against Australia in the quarter finals. England where losing for most of the match, yet with 20 minutes to go, they pushed for a try and got it! Johny Wilkinson scored the kick after it to give England a slender lead England's forwards then kept Australia pinned back in their own half, and also managed to waste 5 minutes in scrums.
The nation was in shock. Against all the odds, they'd knocked out the Ozzies! It was made better when the news came through that the All Blacks (New Zealand), the favourites, had been knocked out by France, who became England's opponents in the semis.
France's main weapon was and is Cristian Chepal, the huge, long haired forward. It's quite a funny name actually, especially as it's pronounced Chevaul, which is French for hair (and also horse, but that doesn't matter). Any way, in the first minute, England scored a try after a mistake by the French defense, and the corner in which it was scored will now forever be known as Try Corner by the English.
However, the French fought back, and deep into the end of the match, it was down to Wilkinson again. he scored a penalty with very little time remaining, and wrapped it up with a drop goal in the last few seconds.
England's opponents in the final will be South Africa. Despite possessing some very quick backs, their main weapon will be the fly half, Percy Montgomery. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that whoever plays better out of the two fly halfs will see their team win.

If we win it again we'll also be the first ever nation to defend their title (aka, win it twice in a row.)
Personnally I don't really like rugby much but its always nice to see england win something (as it doesn't happen much

Yeah, us winning something will be great. Let's hope Hamilton can win something soon, then if we get a decent manager we could win the Euros, with Sidebottom and a fit Simon Jones we'll win the Ashes, and Justin Rose could get very lucky and win a bunch of Majors. Oh, and don't forget the Murrays.
Being the first team to defend a title would be good, even if it's jsut something we can say to the Aussies when we're having our butts kicked at every sport we teach them.
