The AshesSince theres been a fair bit of chat about The Ashes in other parts of the forum I thought I'd make an official topic.
I'd like to start it off by saying the Australians are currently 1-0 up for those who dont know or somehow missed it heres a little more info: http://cricket.com.au/default.aspx?s=newsdisplay&id=38051
Oh and, GO AUSSIE!

Aussies!!! dont get me started ridicuously confident. but on the other hand theres no way i can see our selves winning this series or even a match if we keep up like this. we have no attacking force harmison is screwed not throwing properly at all. this is the team i would have if everyone was fine and dandy (no injuries) ok here goes:-
1. Strauss
2. trescothic these to starting batsman
3. vaughn
4. Bell
5. Pietersen
6. flintoff
7. G.Jones
8. Hoggard
9. S.Jones
10. Montie Panasar however u spell it
11. HArmison he cant bat
StevieCoppellisaGod
Inter, wot about this:
1.Trescothic
2.Stauss
3.Cook
4.Piestersen
5.Flintoff
6.Bell
7.G.Jones or Read
8.Giles
9.S. Jones.
10. Hoggard
11. Harmison HE CAN BAT
but i also would put vaughan n panesar n collingwood in if i could.
StevieCoppellisaGod
Oh, harmison ain't supposed to throw. its bowling, throwings cheating.

Brilliant first test - England warming up. Remember last years ashes series - fabulous. I was at Lords on the last day of the first test then, when the Aussies destroyed us, and look what happened after that. This time England could have opted to try to defend for 2 days, but instead went out to get an impossible 600 plus winning score. Always remember, in sport nothings impossible! Theres always a first time - like the young guy in minor league football who scored 3 goals direct from corners over the weekend.
Nadji
True and if historys anything to go by, If youll take your mind back to last years Ashes you may remember the Australians winning the first test and well... you know the rest
hottntott
Right - and I was there that day - last day of first test - very sad, except for the Aussies there. But it was all good stuff. Pieterson did not get much chance to shine, but just to see him punch the ball to the boundary faster than the eye could follow was enough to indicate what was to come. Warne and McGrath were great that day. Not only did we get beaten but we got soaked at the same time

i went to a cricket match between pakistan vs england 1 dayer AMAZING!! it was the last 1 dayer to draw or pakistaN to win finger biting stuff even tho we won abdul razzaq was slogging every single ball 4 6 you had to wear a safety hat becos u didnt know where it went. plus there was loads of oompa loompas in the crowd (people dressed up of course) it was a great laugh.
hottntott
At its best, what a blinding game cricket is. How do they do it - fielding all day ,hours chasingthe ball all round the ground. Then dodging missiles hurled at you head - wicket keepers with broken fingers playing - fast bowlers crunching their joints to bits. I think they are the toughest guys, hard cookies.
Nadji
Too right I have a lot of respect for cricketers, Ponting's 194 kept him at the crease for 600 odd minutes
hottntott
The recent Aussie teams have been responsible for turning cricket into the attacking game it is now. They transformed it . They are so good for the game. That's why I luv em, and luv to beat em.
inter united ***
espically beat them plus nadji i dont want to be picky but it was ricky pontings 196

Yes your right, dosn't matter though its largest number the English batsmen will be seeing for a while.

I bloody well hope so Nadji! Are things now looking up (or down as you see it.) 266 for three - nuffin 4 Shane & Glenn yet. Earwigo Eawigo Earwigo!

Australia 2-0 up boys! what a thrilling test! Everyone had written us off!
I'd like to take the time to say:
WAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRNNNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYY
hottntott
I hadn't. Bottle went from opening over. Could see it coming - went to bed. Bugger.

u no what strauss was playing amazing (as usuall) and that biased mofo of a umpire gave him out and the ball never hit his bat or glove infact it never hit anything
hottntott
I was in bed. But that'll do. those useless bloody umpires again. ROBBED - ROBBED! O, its hard to be a good sport on a day like this! ROBBED. Defeat snatched from the jaws of victory once again. Help - we've changed our minds - we're not declaring! It was all a big misunderstanding. Look - forget the bit about declaring or we take our ball back.
Nadji
Look guys we cant go blaming the umpires even if their decisions are trash
hottntott
Absolutely right - we ruined a great game by not attacking, denied the Aussies a great run chase. The buggers might still have won - but at least they would have known they'd been in a fight, instead of being challenged to cream puffs at two paces.
inter united ***
nah the real reason y we lost was bcos ashley giles -the idiot. dropped ricky ponting on 33-nob head. then 109 runs later ponting goes out. oh well no use crying over spilt milk
Nadji
Still 3 tests to go...
hottntott
Inter - you are so right - when it happenned you could tell where it was going - it was the key moment in the destiny of that game. If he had taken it I think it would have been game over. But that's the Aussies for ya - can't keep the buggers down.
Nadji - thanks for the nice thought. Mission impossible I would think against such opposition. There again , that's just how we like it, bout time we kicked their asses again. Game on brothers.

yep ashley giles move over let montie panesar take ur place but then again did u see montie miss that catch against india the player was Donnie the wicket keeper. then he caught it the second time. nice
hottntott
He has to have a chance this time - altho Ashley has made such a great contribution in the past.
Nadji
Bring on the Panesar! I want to see him in action

Duncan Fletcher says Monty is the best finger- spinner in the world.
Nadji

They better play Monty on thurday

nadji have u ever seen monty in action if u havnt ur missing out. wem we played pakistan he took 5 wickets and harmison took the other 5 in manchester
hottntott
Whatever happened to that Harmison - anyone seen him around? Genghis Harmison -come back - we need ya.
Nadji
Seems Hoggard is your main hitman at the moment which is a small weakness not to have a variety I believe England need to rework there bowling stratergies because they have proved they can use a bat. If they get the balance of bat and ball going they might be able to turn things around.

That the game boys I'm sorry for your loss but its a 3-0 victory and the fastest ashes retake in history.
hottntott
That's a fact, Nadji. We played great stuff in patches. We've got a young team, the best is yet to come. Pieterson at 4 etc. Congratchers to the Aussies, the buggers jus don't know when they are beaten.
Nadji
Yes well done Poms, valliant effort. Ponts said he wants a clean sweep, also Warne is looking good for those 700 wickets! (there is talk of Shane retiring in the next couple days)
hottntott
Well seeing as we are so very great at coming valiant seconds - we may well now proceed to smash ya to bits! Mind you, that could be because the Aussies won't be able to play properly for laughing.

U no what if we had simon jones, micheal vaughn, trescothic and harmison back in shape like we did the last ashes we would be a chef of death and brew up a storm.

Simon Jones was a sad loss - he was devastating last time. Vaughan will soon be fit. Harmie will come back. Don't know about Trescothick.

this came to me when i was readin this thread again. y'know football fans( well reading fans at least) sing "Your worse than Graham Poll" well what about " Your worse than Daryl Hair"?
your worse than daryl hair, your worse than daryl hair,
you know you are, you surely are
YOU WORSE THAN DARYL HARE!!!
inter united ***
No daryl hair wasnt that bad a umpire he made the right decision about pakistan. he isnt thT bad a umpire plus it was in our favur about ball tampering so it dont matter. plus in the one dayers u saw ahktar sliding his thumb nail down the side of the ball
hottntott
Stevecopple - Inter is right, - Darryll just became the sacrificial lamb to paper over the cracks. If you stick your head up over the parapet you risk getting it shot off. Other umpires will know better and keep their mouths shut - never mind the rules. This is why so many chuckers go unchallenged now. Talking about the chants - whoever Southampton are playing, if they are giving that team a good stuffing they sing 'you're Pompey in disguise, you are'. This is their greatest insult.
StevieCoppellisaGod
sorry, but it was him or billy bowden nand his bent finger, their the only umpires i can remember.
Speaking of disguistes, opening day boro called us sunderland 20 minutes in. Shame on them. Beaten by Sunderland

C'mon England. So we've lost The Ashes, we have one more test to shine. We can do it. Do it like last years. I remember the final day of the final test, well how could I forget, I was at the ground.

Great day that.
the-bats-boston

One of the best, this series...not going so well. Flintoff kept England going at the end, but he was out, and you couldn't count on Panasar to get many runs. Hehe!
Oh well, if we get the Aussies out for nothing too big, then we still have a chance.
hottntott
Yep. This time, they were just too good for us. In the matches we had moments when they were at our mercy, but we blew it. They didn't let us off the hook. Respect to Warne , probably the greatest bowler ever, in spite of his faults. Respect to the other great players in their team. Well played. A blip for our team, they will be ready for next time, we have some great players, no doubt. Next time, the Aussies are ours! meanwhile, congratulations to Nadji and all 4 aces Aussies. They done us up like a kipper, I admit.
the-bats-boston
You're right.
Australia have been the better team for all of this Ashes Tour. Their batting has been oustanding, and they have bowled England out usually between 150-300 runs.
Overall, England have performed pretty poor. Unlike last year where the opening test was our only fault. This year has been a bad series, but it's time to move on. Duncan Fletcher needs to focus the team on the ICC World Cup now, and build some confidence for when The Aussies come back to England. We'll show them who's boss! Especially if they lose Shane Warne, Justin Langer, Glenn McGrath?
We'll have to see, c'mon England!
inter united ***
yep then we will be UNSTOPPABLE in test matches not so much in one dayers.
the-bats-boston
For sure! England need to train harder towards One dayers. We usually suck at them.
hottntott
I think we played too much tough cricket between the two ashes tussles. those easten tours are sapping. Also Simon Jones was a sad loss. Trescothick, Vaughan, - too much tough cricket. And over-training is a problem. The best training for cricket is cricket. In the old days players, escpecially bowlers, did not keep breaking down like this. OK - I'm done.
the-bats-boston
Oh well, lot's of the England team are new players, and are quite young. Over the next year or so, they should work together as a team much more. The loss of Trescothick and Vaughan shows a lot. But I'd rather it be sooner than later, so the new players like Monty Panasar and James Anderson can play some more international cricket. Look at how Butcher and Hussain disappeared, but England bounced back.
Although I am pretty annoyed about Garaint Jones being replaced with Chris Reid. Reid just can't bat.
inter united ***
james anderson isnt new to the england team hes been injured for ages now since the last time we played bangladesh.
the-bats-boston

I thought he only played One Dayers, I mean he is new to Tests. Or did he used to play the Test matches?

You beauty 5-0! (been wating a while to say that) looks like Ricky lived up to his word, apparently the English media is being very harsh on Flintoff and the team in general.

Theres been talk of Warney possibly taking a coaching job in England, could teach your bowlers a thing or to I'd think.

Well, he is very popular here in England of course, and has played for my local senior county Hampshire for some time. He has been a legend here for a while. Quite right too. We like all those horrible Aussie b*******! But especially Shane.

Now...one last time...
