taking into account the fact that man u n chelsea might meet 3 times in a couple of weeks, i thought of something......AN IMPOSSIBLE MISSION!!!!!!!

wait a minute this impossible mission is not 4 u
it is for two premiership teams
let's say man united and chelsea
now coming to the question(u have to use your imagination to the max)

what is the maximum number of times these two teams can play each other during a season?

NB
count matches in every competition
no friendlies are allowed
explained how u arrived that number of matches
dont just state an answer like "5"

MOST IMPORTANT of all u will be amazed of the answer

one will in the champions league and the other the uefa cup, but get relagated from the premiership. uefa decide to enter them both in the uefa cup via the intertot. They meet in the final and they meet twice in the league. they get relagated again. uefa still enter them both in the uefa cup. they meet in both the groups and SEMI FINALS, making four times because there are 2 legs in the semis. they meet in the johnsons paint and carling cups, twice in the league and have fa cup replays. they finish 4th and 5th and face eachother twice in the playoffs. that's ten times. that's all because they can't be in the comunity shield.

In conclusion, ten times.

but a little far fetched for man u n chelsea to be relegated

anyway i also thought of another way in which they met 10 times

in the previous season one of them finishes first(man u)

the other finishes fifth(chelsea) the one finishing fifth(chelsea) also wins the FA cup n that year's champions league

just like liverpool did ,they get to play in the champions league through preliminaries.
now it all starts

not benefitting from country protection chelsea gets the same group in champions league as man u.

1 charity shield
2 premiership
2 fa cup(replay included)

2 league cup(semi final stage)

2 champions league group stage(both qualify)

1 champions league final

TOTAL 10 times

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just imagine 2 teams meeting 10 times in a season

impossible mission(maybe not)
